speech 2 outline

Safe parking in Iowa
Purpose statement:
The Iowan government should pay more attention to safe parking, including general private parking and highway parking.

Thesis statement:
Should increase monitoring cameras in parking lots
Should establish more parking stations on the highways.

Introduction:
There are lots of parking issues in Iowa, violation, charge, space, at the same time, safety as the first element when we choose to park, so we should be concerned about the existing problems of safe parking in Iowa.

Personal experiences:
My car have been hit and run twice in parking lot. The first time I was lucky that I happened to see my vehicle hit by someone else , then I record his license plate number and call the police. However, second time, I only saw the lights of the car smashed by other vehicle but there was no way to find out who hit my vehicle.

Main points:
we should build a good parking environment for each other.

topic proposal of speech 2, Nov 12, 2018

Discussion of the subject:
Parking issues in Iowa: parking space and parking monitoring.

Focus:
I will suggest to increase parking spaces and monitoring in parking lots.

Reason or rationale:
By my personal experiences,
I often can't find a parking space when I have class. There is still no parking space after I wait for ten or twenty minutes. Then I would late for class that the instructor deducts my attendance marks.

My car have been hit and run twice in parking lot. The first time I was lucky that I happened to see my vehicle hit by someone else , then I record his license plate number and call the police. However, second time, I only saw the lights of the car smashed by other vehicle but there was no way to find out who hit my vehicle.

A lot of students in order to find a parking space lead to traffic jam.

argument of speech 2, Nov 7, 2018

This major assignment probably ask us to provide relative evidences or arguments to persuade audiences and agree with the question we discussed.
The question could be safety recommendations, study suggestions or working issues, and the field we chosen should be common and necessary in daily life.
Then, we should come up with some solutions to solve those problems.
In order to increase credibility, we must use more than three outside resources during the speech.

Problem:
What resources we should use? Academic or non-academic?
What's the structure for this speech?

introduction & methods, Oct 24, 2018

Introduction
Customer satisfaction index is the abbreviation of customer satisfaction survey system in service industry. It is a relative concept, reflecting the degree of match between customer expectations and customer experience (Edvardsson, B., & Enquist, B., 2002). In the marketing process, customer satisfaction reflects the recognition of customers on the product or service, which directly affects the business profit and future growth trend of the enterprise. Therefore, higher customer satisfaction is important for the enterprise becoming thriving and prosperous (Gera, R. Mittal,S. Bartra, in prasad,B. , 2017).
Ikea from Sweden is committed to provide consumers with household products whose advantages are multi-function, innovative design, reasonable prices and reliable quality (Dahlvig, A., & Goteman, I, 2003). It is well-known that Ikea possesses outstanding product quality, good service and outstanding customer satisfaction. On the other hand, Ikea performed brilliant strategies: standard rules, diversity of design styles, excellent services and orderly management systems. These extraordinary measures are conducive to meet the customers’ need and enhancing the company's reputation (Jin-Yuan, Y. U. A. N., Miao, W. A. N. G. ect, 2016).
Therefore, it is significance to determine the influencing factors of Ikea's customer satisfaction, analyze the strength and weakness of Ikea's customer management and put forward relevant suggestions and measures to promote service quality. This research focuses on Ikea's current consumer satisfaction situation and the ways to improve it.
Method
Participants
This study is aimed at the independent consumers who are over 18 years old and shopping in IKEA on Iowa. It includes all walks of people to achieve the diversity of samples and keep the balance on the gender. The survey avoided young customers who are under the age of 18 and elder customers over the age of 70, because they are not representative.
Procedures
In order to comprehensively and carefully grasp the degree of consumer satisfaction, this survey is mainly quantitative research, using questionnaire survey method. There are some multiple choices in the questionnaire, which are related to brand recognition, product quality and service assessment.
Data Analysis
In the process of analyzing data, the main concerns are three levels, brand, product and service. Through sorting out the scores and drawing a table, comparing and analyzing the results longitudinally according the monthly income or gender. Finally, summarize the results and try to find out the relationship among these factors

how the genre of IMRaD report is different from an argument-based research paper, Monday, 10/15/2018

We are going to write an IMRaD report for the second paper, and there are clearly indicated that we need to write abstract, introduction, methods, results and recommendations in the word document. So, I think the main difference between IMRaD report and normal research paper is the structure of paper.
For normal research paper, we don't have to talk about what methods we used and what results for this research, and we can only describe and analyze the social phenomenon. However, ImRaD report has clear division of structure, so we need to follow the requirements to describe the research at first, talk about the methods we used for the research, the consequences for the social phenomenon, then give audiences some suggestions. Moreover, we need to use some graphs or tables to help analyzing the research. The IMRaD report like academic paper, and argument-based research paper like non-academic paper that we don't need to write too professionally.

outline of speech 1

First, I will introduce the game "Warframe" to audiences so that they can know more information about characters and their abilities. Then, I will mention that the game developer release a new character every 3 months on their official website. Players need to purchase on official website directly or take a lot of time on game tasks to own this warframe.

This game is free to play at all, while players can spend money on official website to directly purchase characters or weapons.

Then, the favorite character I like in this game is Nekros. (Show commercial)

Commercial Purpose:
To publicze and sell the new character on official website, by arousing the interests of the players in Warframe.

How to reach:
1. the use of gruesome background music is suitable for character setting
2.  there are mostly dim light in this video, and the enemy is also scared of the new character, which convinces players that the character is powerful and worth buying.
3. show general abilities of the character to help players know more details about Nekros.

Logo:
1. Game's icon looks like a blooming lotus, which is very attractively for those players who are not playing this game
2. White and blue, looks tidy and simple.
3. The main character is this game named "Lotus".

Effective: successfully arouse players' interests
Personal feeling:
1. I really like this new character
2. I think this character is powerful and valuable
3. Want to get it as soon as possible, no matter spend a lot of time on the game tasks or directly buy in official website

I will make slides for each point and some relative images for this game in power point.

Conclusion: This commercial helps game developer selling their products

revision for preliminary analysis of the commercial

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InN07z-8LwE

This commercial introduced a new warframe, which is a character in the game. At the beginning of the video, there is a distinct headline states this game is "blood and gore violence" and only apply for "aged 17 and over".
The purpose for this commercial is publicizing and selling this new character, because players need to purchase directly on official website or take a lot of time on game tasks to own this warframe.
As an audience, I really want to get this character as soon as possible after watched this video, because this commercial clearly showed Nekros' controlling and powerful abilities to captivate enemies.
For the logo of this game, we can easily find it in the bottom right corner and at the end of the video. The logo looks like a blooming lotus, at the same time, the highest commander in this game is also named "Lotus". Players can see this logo everywhere during the missions of the game. There is no doubt that this logo as a significant icon for this game.
Then, the use of gruesome background music in this video indicates the main abilities for this character, like a sorcerer to control others. At the same time, there are mostly dim light in this video, and the enemy is also scared of the new character, which convinces players that the character is powerful and worth buying.

First draft for writing in the field of economics

Writing in the field of Economics
When it comes to discussing Economics, calculations, concepts, diagrams, but at the same time, writing is also as the important part in the field of Economics. In order to understand the daily writing content and form of professionals in the field of economics, I interviewed a first-year master in the economic college.
The people I interviewed already had a whole year of experience in economic and satisfied with his work. Usually, he spends 3 to 4 hours in economic writing every day, and his writings are in order for those commercial employees more effectively to understand financial information. According to him, he will consider the following aspects when he is writing the papers, content, purpose and understanding degree. In general, if the staff has financial foundation before, he will write some professional words without too many comments and focus on analyzing not just introduce. On the contrary, if the staff doesn’t have any professional knowledge before, he may write some easier words to explain those difficult concepts and help readers to understand (Personal communication, September 3, 2018).
During his career, he also encountered many papers that are hard to read or understand. For example, in his opinion, those abbreviations of financial words and complex words make the paper harder. Occasionally, he will receive several e-mails containing many long sentences, and those long sentences will lead him hard to read. So, he thinks it’s very important to keep short sentence or use easier way to explain the same point. It’s important, because reader will hard to make sense of the author’s words when the sentences are too long (Personal communication, September 3, 2018).
Besides, he indicated that he learned a lot of excellent thinking skills during writing class, because writing class gives him an opportunity to focus on editing, rewriting, and improving his papers in a period. His major also requires him to answer queries from clients and come up with his new questions, and these writing missions must be explicit structure to effectively deliver the necessary information. Therefore, he learned a few different ways to improve his work, such as make a proposal, write first draft and revise the final draft. I strongly agree with him because it just likes what we are doing in this rhetoric course. More importantly, summaries, comments and analyses for other articles are useful for writers to improve their writing skills. Therefore, I would like to analysis the writing skills for the following six resources.

1. Academic resource for the title:  The new-Keynesian liquidity trap
written by John H. Cochrane
URL: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0304393217300922

At first, this article published by the authoritative periodical:  journal of monetary economics, and this periodical has powerful influence in economics field. Then, there are many professional languages used in this article, and many concepts are belong to professional researchers in economic field. At last, the languages and contents for this article are logical and evidential, and the author used many graphs to prove his opinions. So, those points are accord with the characters for academic resource. I will analyze this article in its languages, resources and concepts then compare with other articles.

2. Academic resource for the title: Multi-category Competition and Market Power: A Model of Supermarket Pricing

This article belongs to academic resource as I think. At first, it's published from one of the most famous periodicals in economic field: The American Economic Review. This periodical is a economic territory, and reviewed by other peers, created in 1911, published by American economic each quarter. In economic field, this periodical as one of the most important periodicals which have lots of academic prestige in United States, so the articles comes from this periodical will have great value. Then, this article has abundant concepts and includes all kinds of data and analyzing, and the thoughts and opinions in this article are creatively and novelty. At the end, this article has all smooth statements, without any grammatical mistake, but some sentences are not easy to understand.

This article is similar with last article and also publish by The American Economic Review, so it also has powerful influence in economic field. However, compare with last article, this article is placing emphasis on investing bank, and the author's languages are excellent which can use suitable and powerful evidences to prove his opinions. Besides, he mentioned some new thoughts for economy, so it's meaningful to academic researching. On the other hand, he also used several charts and graphs.

Minor Assignment, Wed, Aug 22

Well, I think this assignment have two important parts ask us to do: interview and 6 resources. For the interview, I will try to ask some friends who are graduated by master already and have some major with me. I will try to ask him or her about how does he write paper for the major assignment, how many times he needs to finish for one paper and so on...
For the resources, that's the difficult parts for us I think, because we need to understand what are the articles talk about first, then we need to analyze them and then need to consider the thoughts that the author points out. It should take a long time to do...

First question is how to define Academic resources and non-academic recourse? just distinguish by word-choice?

Second, how many words we need to write for interview and how many for 6 resources? Is it have any requirement?

Third, for the analyzing sources, we just write down the 6 subheads for the article topics? and then just start to analyze one by one or we can analyse together
